No more chemo

Sadly it's the end of the line as far as chemo goes. This week Yogi had his chemo as usual on Monday, his glands were still up and I think were larger than last week. He has also started getting enlarged glands elswhere in his body. On Tuesday he started to look slightly uncomfortable where wee'ing is concerned. As the week wore on, it got worse, to the point where he is unable to control his bladder at all. He has been staying at Mum's during the day so that he can be let out whenever he needs to. Yesterday we took him to see John who confirmed our worst fears that chemo was no longer working and it was actually having side effects. The endoxana has caused cystitis and was making him very uncomfortable. Prince had this too and I know that it tore Graham apart watching him try to wee and be unable to. I think that we knew this was the news we were going to receive and it was heartbreaking. For now he is going to stay on Pred to make him feel well.
He is still bright in himself so all we can do is make whatever time he has left as happy as possible. He had a fantastic time in Norfolk so he is going back there next weekend providing he is well enough.
Mum is doing brilliantly. I don't know what I would have done without her to be able to look after Yogi this week. She has bounced back after the op so much better than I thought she would. She has another in a few weeks.
This weekend we are going to walk and walk and walk. Yogi loves getting out and about and that is what we all need - to feel we are doing exactly what he wants.

It wasn't the news I wanted to hear but I have been so concerned all the past week. The emotions - we know them all believe me. It's hell.
You couldn't do anything better than give Yogi a great time at the seaside. Anything for the love of Yogi...........
Lots of Love, Lesley

Fiona, I'm so sorry it's not better news for Yogi.

If it's any consolation for you, I do get a feeling of peace from Yogi when I'm sending him Reiki.

{{hugs}}

Angela, Thank you! That is all I could wish for, that he is peaceful. I thought that he was, but it is best when someone confirms it. And thank you so much for the continued reiki, I'm sure it helps him.

Dear Fiona, I am very sad to hear this news and my Mom too. Please give Yogi a big hug from his Aunties in America and of course, a big hug for you too! Hope you'll be able to go to the sea next weekend. The sea provides one comfort and strength at the same time. How is Larry? Perhaps your friend, Angela, could send Reiki to you and Larry too? We send lots of prayers and will be in touch soon again.

Love, Elizabeth

So sorry - Herbie was having weekly urine tests, with me chasing him round the garden with a washing-up bowl, and although he developed bloodpsots in his urine, we caught it before it developed into painful cystitis. My vets substituted chlorambucil (Leukeran) for the Endoxana - it's a pill, not an IV drug. It didn't work on Herbie, but... I'm glad he's got the prospect of another seaside trip!

Hi Handh,I am not sure how painful this is for Yogi, I think (hope) its more irritating for him. The vet can't give any more treatment as he says he will need to be referred to an oncologist. Knowing Yogi, I don't think he would want to go to a strange place for treatment. I was surprised how well he tolerated the vet that he knew.
